Applying
How Do I Apply Through EzyFund?
Use the calculator to choose an amount and term, then click Apply now and fill in one short online form. We send your application to a registered lender, who reviews it and contacts you.
How Long Does The Application Take?
About 3 minutes to fill in the form. How long the review takes depends on the lender; most review applications during business hours.
Do I Need To Upload Documents?
Not for the EzyFund form. Before approving a loan, the lender may ask for a copy of your ID, a recent payslip or bank statements.
Can I Apply At Night Or On Weekends?
Yes, the form is online all the time. Lenders usually review applications during business hours, so a weekend application is often looked at on the next business day.
Can I Apply On My Phone?
Yes. The form works on any smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection.
Does Applying Commit Me To A Loan?
No. Applying is free and you are never obliged to accept an offer. You only take a loan if you accept and sign the lender’s agreement.
Costs And Fees
Is EzyFund Free To Use?
Yes. Applying through EzyFund costs you nothing.
How Much Does A Short-Term Loan Cost?
The National Credit Act caps what a lender can charge. On short-term credit the maximums are interest of 5% a month on your first loan (3% a month on later short-term loans in the same calendar year), an initiation fee of R165 plus 10% of the amount above R1,000 (never more than R1,050), and a service fee of R60 a month. VAT is added to the fees. For example, R3,000 over 1 month on a first loan costs at most R3,638.75 in total.
Are There Any Hidden Fees?
Before you sign, the lender must give you a quotation that lists every fee and the total you will repay. Read it carefully and ask the lender about anything you don’t understand before you accept.
Do Repeat Loans Cost Less?
They can. The maximum interest drops from 5% to 3% a month on later short-term loans taken in the same calendar year. The fee caps stay the same.
Does The Calculator Show My Exact Cost?
It shows the most a loan can cost at the legal maximums. Your lender may charge less, and your written quote shows your actual cost.
Eligibility And Credit
Who Can Apply?
You can apply if you are 18 or older, have a valid South African ID, earn a regular income, have a South African bank account, and have a cellphone number and email address.
Can I Apply If I'm Blacklisted Or Have Bad Credit?
Yes, you can apply. South Africa has no official blacklist; lenders check your credit record and affordability. A poor record does not automatically rule you out, but approval is never guaranteed.
Will The Lender Check My Credit Record?
Yes. Registered lenders must assess your credit record and your affordability before they lend.
Will Applying Affect My Credit Record?
Filling in the EzyFund form doesn’t add anything to your credit record. If a lender reviews your application, they will usually check your credit record with a credit bureau as part of their assessment.
Can I Apply If I'm Self-Employed Or Receive A Pension?
Yes, as long as you have a regular income you can show the lender. Approval depends on their affordability assessment.
Why Was My Application Declined?
Lenders decline when the credit check or affordability assessment does not meet their criteria. You can ask the lender for the reasons, and you can get a free credit report once a year from each credit bureau to check your record.
Repayment
How Do I Repay The Loan?
Usually by debit order from your bank account on payday, in 1 to 6 monthly instalments, exactly as set out in your agreement.
Can I Repay My Loan Early?
Yes. You can settle your loan before the end of the term by paying what you owe up to that date. Ask the lender for a settlement figure.
What Happens If I Miss A Payment?
Contact your lender before the payment date to discuss your options. Missed payments can lead to extra charges, legal action and a negative credit record.
Can I Take A Second Loan Before I Repay The First?
It depends on the lender’s affordability assessment. Taking a new loan to repay an old one can quickly become hard to manage, so only borrow what you can comfortably repay.
What Is Debt Counselling?
If you can’t keep up with your debts, a registered debt counsellor can help you restructure them. The National Credit Regulator (0860 627 627) can refer you to one.
Privacy And Safety
Is My Information Safe?
Yes. Your details are sent over an encrypted connection and handled in line with POPIA. Read our Privacy Policy for the details.
Who Do You Share My Information With?
We share your details with a lender only when you agree to it as part of your application, so they can assess it.
How Do I Spot A Loan Scam?
Be careful if anyone asks you to pay a fee up front to “release” a loan, asks for your banking PIN or one-time passwords, or pressures you to decide fast. EzyFund will never ask you to pay a fee to apply.
How Can I Check That A Lender Is Registered?
Search the register of credit providers on the National Credit Regulator website at ncr.org.za, or call the NCR on 0860 627 627.
